At The Foreign Expert, we post translations of interesting items from Chinese websites — newspapers and magazines, blogs, forums and more. We look for stories, photos and videos that shed light on life in the world’s most dynamic country.
We favor substance over sensationalism, but we don’t shy away from controversial topics. Over the site’s life, our contributors have come from America and China, and we’ve always sought to share knowledge for its own sake, never to support or slander a certain person or group. We hope this will save us from ever encountering The Anti-Foreign Expert or becoming the target of a site attack. We do what we do because we’re fascinated by life in China, because we’re interested in developing our Mandarin or English, and because we believe in the free exchange of ideas. If you have opinions about the things we post, everything is open to comment, and anything goes except for spam and off-topic, ad hominem attacks.
NOTE TO READERS - 5/30/09
In the past, this site has offered an almost-daily news update and links to English-language news sources around the web. Sadly, we will no longer be doing this anymore as we focus on the site’s new format. An archive of the old site can still be found at http://www.theforeignexpert.com/past, but it will no longer be kept up. Translations, a few videos, and the only piece of original writing, Free of Charge, have been migrated to the new site.
Our new, streamlined format should make it easier for us to provide translations and for you to enjoy them. Thanks for reading.
